The [[School of Science and Engineering]] (SSE) maintains a limited site-license for student use of Solidworks 2014.  It is available on many school-owned computers, students may request an individual copy for their personal computers under the SSE license.
Meshmixer is free software, anyone can download and install it for free on their personal computer.

Note: Meshmixer was purchased by Autodesk in 2016 and some of its tools were incorporated into Fusion 360.  We still recommend the Meshmixer program, as it appears to again be the most easily approachable program for its specific tasks.

The recommended method for learning Solidworks is to simply work through the Tutorials provided with the software. The program also contains an elaborate "Help" system that will answer most questions as they arise.
